Production Synopsis:
"The Wisdom of Eve" was the 2nd show of the 2002 season at Broadway West and my directorial debut.  The show has a strange history.  Mary Orr wrote the original short story for the New Yorker, where it was noticed and optioned by Joseph Mankewitz.  He, in turn, wrote the screenplay for "All About Eve" based on this story.  Mary Orr then wrote a full length novel based on her original story and later wrote this play based on that novel.  The names and plot differ slightly from each other but utlimately they are both about the power and the price of stardom.  The season subscribers were very kind to this rookie by voting me Best Director for 2002.  In addition cast members Karene Daugherty and Mary Galde were honored for there work as Best Actress and Best Supporting actress respectively.  The cast on a whole were fantastic and I could not have done it without the crew, with special thanks to my Associate Director Dawn E. Cates.  Because of certain inconsistancies in the play due to attempts to update it, it was hard to set the date and time.  Do you make it a period piece or modern?  I opted to do both, setting it in modern New York but having a costume design more consistent with the late forties.  Therefore we have fedoras and portable phones, tiara's and television.
